{"id":772,"date":"2013-08-08T10:55:09","date_gmt":"2013-08-08T14:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lallyacoustics.com\/blog\/?p=772"},"modified":"2016-03-15T10:56:30","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T14:56:30","slug":"but-i-know-what-i-hear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lallyacoustics.com\/blog\/archives\/772","title":{"rendered":"But I know what I hear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week, New York&#8217;s <a title=\"MOMA\" href=\"http:\/\/moma.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Museum of Modern Art<\/a> is opening its first major exhibition of sound art, <a title=\"Soundings at MOMA\" href=\"http:\/\/www.moma.org\/visit\/calendar\/exhibitions\/1379\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cSoundings: A Contemporary Score\u201d<\/a>. \u00a0Through November 3rd, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in auditory pieces designed by sixteen of the most innovative contemporary artists working with sound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Forty-Part Motet\" src=\"http:\/\/graphics8.nytimes.com\/images\/2013\/08\/04\/arts\/04SOUND1_SPAN\/04SOUND1_SPAN-articleLarge.jpg\" alt=\"Forty-Part Motet\" width=\"404\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Not to be outdone, on September 10th the <a title=\"The Met\" href=\"http:\/\/metmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> will present <a title=\"Janet Cardiff\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiffmiller.com\/artworks\/inst\/motet.html\" target=\"_blank\">Janet Cardiff&#8217;s\u00a0\u201cForty-Part Motet\u201d<\/a>, pictured above. \u00a0This first foray into sound by the Met (to be installed in\u00a0<a title=\"Fuentidue\u00f1a Chapel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/collections\/galleries\/cloisters\/002\" target=\"_blank\">Fuentidue\u00f1a Chapel at The Cloisters<\/a>) combines forty separately-recorded voices from forty loudspeakers into a 16th century choral ensemble, a synthesis that the New York Times notes has brought visitors to tears. \u00a0<a title=\"NY Times: Did You Hear That?
