{"id":745,"date":"2013-07-29T16:26:28","date_gmt":"2013-07-29T20:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lallyacoustics.com\/blog\/?p=745"},"modified":"2016-03-15T10:56:48","modified_gmt":"2016-03-15T14:56:48","slug":"new-tunnel-between-33rd-st-and-40th-st","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lallyacoustics.com\/blog\/archives\/745","title":{"rendered":"New tunnel between 33rd St and 40th St?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well sort of&#8230;.As part of the <a title=\"NYC Summer Streets 2013\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/dot\/summerstreets\/html\/home\/home.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">NYC Summer Streets 2013<\/a>,\u00a0artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer will install <a title=\"Voice Tunnel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/html\/dot\/summerstreets\/html\/route\/art-performance.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Voice Tunnel<\/a>, which includes 360 spotlights controlled by a special intercom located at the center of the tunnel that passses under Park Avenue between 33rd and 40th Streets. \u00a0The intercom will record public \u00a0participants voices and influence the intensity of the light &#8211; louder speech will increase the brightness of the lights. \u00a0The intent is to create &#8216;Morse-code like&#8217; flashes based on the sound pattern and volume of speech. \u00a0The individual voices will also be audible on 180 loudspeakers located along the length of the tunnel. \u00a0It will be open on Saturdays between 7 am and 1 pm Aug 3rd, 10th and 17th.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rGazLQKb948\" width=\"404\" height=\"227\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The content\u00a0of the piece will change constantly as participants come and go. \u00a0We are curious to hear how the reverberation within the tunnel and potential added acoustical absorption of people in the tunnel will influence the piece.
